A. S. Brockenbrough letter to the Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia, [manuscript] 1826 Oct 1.

University Proctor Brockenbrough writes to ask if it is the intention of the Board to require faculty members to maintain their houses and lots at their own expense, University funds being insufficient to provide for all the improvements and additions requested. In addition, Brockenbrough states that the University's water service needs improvement to be able to provide an adequate supply at all times. He suggests that the University purchase a fire engine as soon as possible and reminds the Board of his September 30, 1825 report in which he stated that $25,000 was needed to complete the buildings and pay the University's debts.
